Youth Engagement Lead Ella, interviews Peer Faciliator, Finty, about creating and finally publishing 3 videos for the Boostrap project. These videos look at what PUI is, how it can impact young peoples mental health and what can be done about it.
Hey Finty, can you introduce yourself & what you do for EYMH and the Bootstrap project?
My name is Finty, and I am from the UK. I have been part of the Bootstrap project since 2023 and started off as part of the Bootcrew, which is a youth adviso for the project, as a Young Expert. Now I work as a Peer Facilitator and help facilitate Bootcrew sessions, as well as working in the comms team to create content such as the youth hub and these videos!
Tell us why you wanted to make these videos about Problematic Use of the Internet?
We all joke about doomscrolling, but problematic internet use can quietly take a big toll on our mental health. I wanted to make these videos to move past just saying ‘screens are bad’ and instead give young people practical, realistic ways to build healthier digital habits without feeling judged.
What was the process of making the videos like? Did you work with any other young people?
It was very collaborative! The Bootcrew was involved in brainstorming ideas, reviewing drafts, and giving constructive feedback. It was also a big learning curve for me, and I improved my editing skills in Canva.
They look amazing! How do you feel seeing the finished result?
Aside from the classic cringe of hearing my own voice on replay, I’m happy with the videos. Seeing our ideas come to life as finished, helpful resources is very rewarding, and I can’t wait for people to see them.
